Now you should be left with the border (which at this point is a larger solid background) and the background itself. At this point you should be able to select the letters and delete them all. It even separates the O's into their backgrounds and holes. This separates the letters from the background and the background from the border, essentially creating a "stack" of objects. (If you are using the new Inkscape 1.0 you can skip this step and use Edit>Split View Mode or Edit>X-ray Mode in stead, but I find the opacity easier to work with in this case).Īt this point you can select the object and go Path>Break Apart, and the results of this will be clear if you used the Alpha channel method above. This will make the subsequent steps much easier, as you will see the different objects that make up your image as they appear. Take the "Opacity" of the object down to about 50% or so. (Optional) Next, select the object you want to work on and open the Fill and Stroke menu in the sidebar. Drag that off to the side somewhere and keep it as a backup. You might need to click off to deselect, and then click to select again so as to only select the top copy. This will allow you to separate the two objects, and you will see that they are an exact copy of one another.
To do this, right click on the image and select "Ungroup".
Because of this, Path operations (like break apart) wont work until we're only looking at a single object. Your image seems to be a group of two of the same images atop one another. I'm going to try to explain what I did to make it work, but I will work with you to figure this out so let me know if you get stuck. I just tried what I wrote and it didn't work.
